The ‘Heide’ Top
To find out if the “one size fits most” claim by clothing retailer Brandy Melville holds weight, five female staff members from BuzzFeed conducted an experiment where they tried on its clothes.
All five women have different body sizes, and they were juxtaposed against the body of an average model for comparison.
Some of the items they tried on included a crop top, a skirt, a jersey dress, and a hoodie. Opinions were mostly mixed, with the women calling the crop top “uncomfortable” and saying it might be problematic for busty women as it would ride up too high and expose their stomachs, while the skirt’s tiny size and lack of an elastic waistband left them puzzled.
Revealingly, the women with larger builds couldn’t fit into most of the clothes or looked squashed in them, proving that Brandy Melville’s slogan wasn’t so truthful after all.
Their final thoughts? They concluded that the term “one size fits all” ignores the fact that there is no one average body, and that retailers should cater to different sizes instead of trying to fit people into a universal size.
