We have previously featured several pieces of 3D-printed clothing, but most of them are more artistic sculptures than real wearable garments—that is not the case with the “Kinematics Dress” created by tech and design company Nervous System.

Printed as a single folded piece that requires no assembly, this amazing dress is made using a novel technique that takes inspiration from origami, and is composed of thousands of interlocking components—more precisely, this intricately patterned dress is made of “2,279 unique triangular panels interconnected by 3,316 hinges, all 3D printed as a single piece in nylon”.

Due to its unique composition, this dress is incredibly flexible and is able to conform and flow in response to the body movements of its wearer—watch the video below to see the dress on a live moving model.

This innovative dress, together with the software that created it, has been acquired by MOMA for its permanent collection, while a second version of it was recently unveiled at the CES. Find out more about it here.
