Isaac Fitzgerald of BuzzFeed recently underwent an experiment where he wore make-up for one week, and documented his experience.
Over the course of five days from Monday to Friday, Fitzgerald went about his day with more make-up being added each day.
On the first day, he noted that the mascara he was wearing made his eyelashes “look like black thorns sprouting from my eyelids”, and was annoyed that people commented on his shaved beard while failing to notice he had on make-up.
As the week progressed and the make-up got more dramatic, he received compliments from the women in his office, while the men refused to make eye contact. His manager also fielded emails from curious co-workers who wanted to know why he was wearing make-up.
At the end of the experiment, Fitzgerald concluded that while he loved how mascara opened up his eyes and how his lips looked covered in lipstick, he stated it “made him conspicuous in a way I wasn’t used to.”
