BMW’s new Super Bowl ad is a nod to the past—to a time when the internet was a novel phenomenon.

Its campaign for its first all-electric car with a carbon fiber body, the BMW i3, takes its reference from a segment of NBC’s The TODAY Show in 1994, where the news anchor duo—Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric—was introduced to the Internet.
