If viewing Sebastian Errazuriz’s recent installation makes you yawn, fret not, as the New York-based artist has intended for you to do so.
Titled ‘A Pause in the City That Never Sleeps’, Errazuriz’s installation consists of playing videos of a man yawning continuously on electronic billboards across Times Square every night in January 2015, from 11:57pm to midnight.
Experimenting with the contagious nature of yawning, the installation hopes to spread an “epidemic of yawns” by making pedestrians pass their “contagious message” unconsciously to other people across the city as they walk.
Errazuriz will make a special appearance on 17 January 2015 in Times Square, where he hopes to encourage everyone to participate in a huge yawn-filled gathering.
