Only A Day Old, Glitter-Shipping Service Closes Shop, Is Up For Sale

Yesterday, we wrote about a service that anonymously sends glitter to people you hate, which was “temporarily suspended”. But it turns out that it’s closing shop within a day of its launch.

And this is because of its popularity—in fact, it was too well received.

Ship Your Enemies Glitter’ racked up 80,000 shares on Facebook in less than 12 hours since going ‘live’, with various media outlets picking up the news and broadcasting it. The news also went viral over at Reddit.

This business of taking revenge via mailing a glitter package was so sought-after that its founder regrets setting it up.

On Product Hunt, the site that first broke the news on the glitter-shipping service, 22-year-old Mathew Carpenter wrote: “Hi guys, I’m the founder of this website. Please stop buying this horrible glitter product—I’m sick of dealing with it. Sincerely, Mat.”

The sudden influx of online traffic caused the website to crash several times, and Carpenter even had to ask his web host for help, offering additional payment to get his resources fast.

The entrepreneur, who founded a couple of startups, then proceeded to put up the site for sale not long after.

Nevertheless, the site posted an assuring note informing individuals who have already placed their orders: “We’ve received all orders and (are) working through them. There was a ton so be patient.”
