What would you do if the country that you’re living in has a large number of stray, abused and abandoned dogs?
Photographer Stuart Holroyd decided to put his skills to good use by giving these dogs a glam photo shoot, hoping to increase their chances of adoption.
With the help of a fellow resident in Cyprus, Holroyd got in touch with Kayte Wilson-Smith, who runs Bay Tree Rescue, a small rescue center for these canines.
Holroyd told PetaPixel, “The current stray dog situation in Cyprus is very bad. Animal cruelty in Cyprus is at an all-time high. Dogs are being dumped, beaten and tortured for absolutely no reason other than amusement. Cyprus has no animal cruelty laws so almost every day a beaten or abandoned dog is left on her doorstep.”
Hence, Holroyd embarked on the ‘Bay Tree Project’, a fantasy photo series of dog portraits with the aim to increase awareness, funds and adoptions.
He would customize the photo shoot scenes to match the characteristics and personality of each dog—for instance, ‘Millie the Mermaid’ portrait was created because the dog Millie has a disability that results in her back legs being stuck together.
Upon completion of the photo series, they will be compiled into a book, with plans to also put the prints up for sale through exhibitions. All proceeds will go towards the Bay Tree Rescue center.
