Photographer Vincent Laforet, known for his aerial photographs, recently captured some stunning night-time shots of New York City from a helicopter flying at 7,500 feet in the air.

Incredibly, Laforet took the images while leaning out of the helicopter; he and his cameras were secured by body harnesses to protect from the strong winds.

The seasoned photographer has gone on over 50 “aerial missions” over New York City, but this was “the most frightening flight” yet, he wrote in Storehouse. In fact, he was so high up that he was able to view air traffic at the major airports, including John F. Kennedy and La Guardia.

Illuminated by the brilliant neon lights and with its buildings forming dazzling line patterns, New York City has never looked this spectacular from above. Amazingly, Laforet was able to capture sharp and clear images despite the strong vibrations of the helicopter.

The photographs were taken for an article about psychology for Men’s Health Magazine and you can view more images from the series at his website.
