At the recent F8, Facebook's annual conference, Michael Abrash used optical illusions to show how virtual reality can easily trick people.
The head scientist of Oculus Rift explained that if we judge what is real by our five senses, then reality is just electrical signals interpreted by our brains. Using the Matrix-themed mental manipulation, he explained that the choice between the red pill or the blue pill is redundant when one does not consider the context of the colors surrounding the pills, because both are just grey.
Our eyes normally tend to compensate for perceived lights and shadows which is necessary for the real world, but can be deceptive in the virtual world.
