The Brooklyn Public Library has recently unveiled an intriguing new logo that has a misspelling in it.
To be precise, it is less of a misspelling than a shortening of the word “Brooklyn”—the new logo reads as “Bklyn Public Library”.
Created by multi-disciplinary design studio Eight and a Half,—who also did the logo for Saturday Night Live—the logo seems particularly provocative because it represents a library, an organisation that is especially likely to support “proper” spelling.
However, the refreshed logo can be seen as a clever play on the words “Brook-lyn” and “Book-lyn”, making it fun and relevant for the ebook-reading generation.
What do you think—is this brilliant branding or linguistic blasphermy?
