In an attempt to lure customers, 150-year-old luxury fashion brand Burberry has embedded digital tags into its coats and bags for its Burberry Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2013 collection.
The coats and bags—that are runway Made To Order pieces, and part of the brand’s ‘Smart Personalization’ campaign—are custom-made to include personalized engraved nameplates and embedded tags that let its wearers digitally interact with them.
By scanning the bespoke items, using a mobile device or high-tech mirror (that changes into a screen when a personalized piece is near it) at London’s 121 Regent Street Burberry flagship store, tech-savvy fashionistas would trigger a short video specific to the product.
The short film tells of how the item was carefully made by hand—from its original sketches and runway edits, to its craftsmanship and personalization.
The Smart Personalization service is available until 3 March 2013, and the Made To Order collection can be found here.
