Russian photographer Sergey Larenkov melds the past and present in his series of haunting photomontages.
Harboring a keen interest in the rich history of the sites where historical events took place, he began to explore ways of overlapping the past and present in a photograph.
The serene, ordinary looking modern-day locations become arresting portals to the past when he overlays them with old photographs from the World War II era.
The superimposed images blend in seamlessly with the photographs, except for the ghostly black-and-white tone that the artist leaves untouched.
“It's very interesting to find the point where another photographer once stood. Suddenly, you see an old world with your very own eyes. You are transported back in time, it's almost as if you've stepped into a time machine,” said Larenkov.
