Texting while driving is incredibly dangerous—it’s always tempting to sneak a quick peek at your phone when the message tone rings, or to fiddle with your phone at the red light.
Designers Joey Cofone and Michael Vanderbyl sought to keep drivers safe and focused on the road with their new concept, ‘Car Mode’. They stuck to the infrastructure of the iOS 7, creating a seamless design that iPhone users can easily familiarize with.
The system is activated once the user steps into the car, automatically syncing with the car’s Bluetooth system. When a text is received, the messages will not appear on screen until the car’s ignition is turned off—a summary screen will appear then, displaying all received messages.
Users will not have to worry about friends awaiting a quick reply—once a text is received, the system will send out a notification alerting the sender that the user’s phone is on ‘Car Mode’. Also, calls can still be taken via hands-free.
“Dinner Mode may sound like a good idea. No more distractions when you're eating with your family—but getting a text in between forkfuls of pasta doesn't kill you—getting a text while driving can,” said Cofone.
