Brooklyn-based artist Alexander Gorlizki brought to our attention a strange phenomenon spotted on the streets of Jaipur, India—goats who wear sweaters.
While we are more or less used to seeing cats and dogs in clothes on social media, dressed-up goats still strike us as something out of the ordinary.
However, according to Gorlizki, these goats are not dressed up for fashion, but for meat—the sweaters and other articles of clothing keep them warm in the winter and help them maintain their weight until the Eid al-Adha, a Muslim holiday that celebrates sacrifice.
Although it is sad to think about how all these cute, sweater-wearing goats are headed for the sacrificial table, Gorlizki’s photographs put them in a stylish light and help to preserve their memories.
