A Cosy Little Cement Cube Holiday Home That Was Hollowed Out By A Cow

Architecture and design firm Ensamble Studios has created a cosy little holiday home, ‘The Truffle’, by the sea in Costa de Morte, Spain.

A largely organic project, the building process involved pouring liquid cement over hay bales set within a soil perimeter. When the concrete had hardened, two ends of the cube were sliced open, revealing the hay bales inside.

A calf named ‘Paulina’ was then introduced to the project, where she hollowed the house by eating up the hay over the course of a year.

From the outside, ‘The Truffle’ blends into its surroundings, looking like an unusually large but common rock in situ, but step into it, and one realizes that its rustic charm lies in its simple but functional design.

Check out the videos showing how the house was constructed and the images below.
