Instead of using them for eating, Ohio-based artist Gary Hovey turns stainless steel utensils into incredible animal sculptures.
To create each sculpture, Hovey carefully uses the unique qualities of each utensil and melds them together. For example, the prongs on a fork are used to create layers of feathers, spoons are used to create curves on the body, and knives are used for their flatness.
What most impressive about his work is that Hovey has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease, which he was diagnosed with in 1994.
“I work when I’m able to move,” He said on My Modern Met. “Family and friends carry sculptures for me. But I still get to make them.”
“I don’t think the quality has suffered, but it does take longer to make them. It helps support my family and it is therapy for me. It has allowed me to meet many wonderful people.”
