Beijing-based photographer Gao Rongguo has a poignant photo series in which he captures portraits of identical twins aged 50 and over.
His subjects hail from Shandong province where he grew up, and he chose to photograph people in their fifties as those are the years in which one’s fate is revealed, according to a Confucian saying.
His choice of identical twins also references astrology, and the fact that two people born at the same time could develop different personalities and interests, and lead different lives. Each pair of twins faces each other as if looking into a mirror, offering a glimpse into their differences and individuality.
