New York City-based photographer Kevin Richardson’s ‘Dance As Art—The New York Photography Project’ is a beautiful visual tribute to the dancers that populate the city.
Shot against iconic Big Apple landmarks like Times Square, Grand Central Station and Central Park, the twirling and leaping dancers exude a grace and dynamism that breathes life into the urban scenes.
Richardson started the project to recognize the talents of the creative community and to bring attention to the art of dance.
He was also spurred by the rising cost of living that makes it increasingly hard for artists to survive, as well as decreased funding for the arts which he fears turns live performances into a luxury only the rich can afford.
Above all, the project acts as a reminder of the artistic lifeblood of the city, and a call to preserve it for current and future generations.
“The dancers stand as representatives of all artists, who are the creative soul of our City and without them there is an emptiness that no new incoming population can fill.”
