It’s the holiday season, which means we’ll soon see a rash of videos from ad agencies trying to out-do each other with creative Christmas-themed company videos.
Austin-based agency Door Number 3 has come up with a hilarious video that imagines Santa as a hipster. The spot also doubles up as its 20th anniversary celebration.
In ‘Hipster Santa Goes South’, actor Bill Wise plays a wisecracking middle-aged fellow who drives a sled powered by “penguin tears and pure Santa sweat”, takes pride in knowing about rock bands before they become popular, and delivers witty quips like “If you’re leaving milk and cookies, I’m lactose intolerant—make it soy, gluten free. And as far as fruitcake bars are concerned, I’m into cleanses, but just not this time of year,” in a warm Southern accent.
With his plaid scarf, scruffy beard and trendy sneakers, he might just be the older, cool dad version of this younger hipster we previously featured.
“We thought about throwing a party, but creating something fun to share beat out warm beer, flowery speeches and tepid toasts,” said agency president M.P. Mueller.
