Dropbox’s Carousel app isn’t new.
Launched in April this year, the app helps you to organize and automatically back up photos and videos from your phone.
However, its latest feature is set to be a game-changer.
Eliminating the need for you to manually delete your photos after they are backed up on Dropbox, now you get to remove them with just the tap of a button through the app.
When your phone storage is reaching its limit, Carousel will send a notification, allowing you to delete the photos that are already on Dropbox.
The Carousel team has put safety checks in place to ensure that the photos do not get deleted by mistake.
Carousel’s software engineer Kat Busch said, “A unique identifier is created for each photo. Our algorithm compares those numbers to what we’ve stored on our server, so that only those that are already backed up on Dropbox will be deleted.”
Already available on Android from today, the feature will be offered to the iOS update next week.
Another soon-to-come feature of Carousel is ‘Flashback’, which will resurface old photos that you have taken for nostalgia’s sake, similar to the ‘Timehop’ app.
