Soon, you may be able to power up your gadgets with the sweat produced by your body during your workouts.

A team of researchers from the University of California San Diego created a temporary tattoo that could turn your sweat into electric currents, which could possibly charge small electronic devices.

The temporary tattoo not only monitors your body’s progress during your workout—it also contains a sensor that detects lactate that is naturally present in your sweat.

The sensor’s enzyme removes electrons from the lactate, producing small electric currents that are stored into its in-built biobattery.

For now, the team’s prototype can only produce enough power to run a watch, but plans are in the way to get more power and better electronics that can store the generated currents.
