Nail Polish That Detects Date Rape Drugs Are Now A Reality

Four students from North Carolina State University’s Materials Science & Engineering department have invented a brilliant game-changer: nail polish that detects the presence of date rape drugs.

Their company is named Undercover Colors, and it comprises Tyler Confrey-Maloney, Stephen Gray, Ankesh Madan, and Tasso Von Windheim. They are branded as the ‘First Fashion Company Working to Prevent Sexual Assault’.

Its real-life application is incredibly simple too. One merely has to dip her finger into her drink, and if her nail polish changes color, it indicates that her drink has been spiked.

At present, the nail polish detects common ‘date rape drugs’, including Rohypnol, Xanax, and GHB.

This nail polish does not prevent, or insinuate that a victim should responsible to protect herself against an assault. Rather, it aims to empower victims by giving them a proven method of detecting if they are in a precarious situation.

To date, Undercover Colors has been a hit, winning at startup showcases and successfully attracting investors. However, the project is still in early stages and more funding is required to make this product a reality. You can make a donation to their project via their site.
