Since 2013, Istanbul-based architect Yener Torun has been steadily documenting the Turkish city’s incredibly colorful architecture in a series of visually stunning images on Instagram.
His beautifully composed pictures combine people, places and patterns to create a gorgeous mosaic of Istanbul’s urban landscape, revealing a bold, colorful side of the city that many might not know.
The architect favors schools, malls, industrial buildings and apartments, often veering into the business districts of Kavacık, Merter, and Cevizlibağ, and the residential neighborhoods of Beylikdüzü and Maltepe.
Despite his hobby, Torun doesn’t view what he does as architectural photography. “What I show is completely abstracted from the reality. With the human element, the background becomes a tool that shows a feeling or emotion,” he told CityLab.
