You’ve probably seen pictures of this dress on your various social media feeds. Now tell us, what colors do you see? Blue and black or gold and white?
The photo was first posted on Tumblr by a user called ‘swiked’, where she asked the following: “Guys please help me — is this dress white and gold, or blue and black? Me and my friends can’t agree and we are freaking the fuck out.”
This was picked up by Buzzfeed, and was made viral with over 21 million views (and rising) in less than a day.
Buzzfeed eventually posted another article, which confirmed the actual colors of the dress as blue and black. But why did some people claim that it was gold and white?
According to a Reddit post, the reason why different people see different colors is probably due to color perception—which is affected by surrounding colors.
The following link better explains this phenomenon.
So there, we hope this has put your mind—and sanity to rest.
