British street artist Banksy’s latest piece is a charged response to a rejected New York Times editorial he wrote on the One World Trade Center, which he mocked for looking “like something they would build in Canada.”
Located at Noble and West Streets in Greenpoint, the graffiti reads “This site contains blocked messages” on a run-down stretch of wall.
According to Banksy, ”Today’s piece was going to be an op-ed column in the New York Times. But they declined to publish what I supplied. Which was this...”
New York Times spokesperson Eileen Murphy confirmed that Banksy’s piece was indeed rejected, and added that the editorial he posted on his site was not exactly the same as what he submitted.
In New York City for his month-long ‘Better Out Than In’ street residency, the elusive artist has been creating an art piece a day while staying out of reach of the NYPD.
For Banksy fans, there isn’t much time left to catch him in action as his show comes to an end this Thursday.
