Dollhouses and their furniture are usually inspired by the real thing found in our everyday life.
To reverse this scenario and as an experiment of digital technologies in art design—Slovakia-based designer Silva Lovasová created a furniture collection based on tiny dollhouse furniture instead.
The ‘1:1’ collection is a series of products that are actually scaled-up life-size copies of their tiny toy counterparts.
To create the collection, Lovasová first 3D-scanned the toys—such as an armchair, lamp, bookshelf, tea set and plastic peanut.
Digital software was then used to expand the products into large 3D models, and made using various materials: Styrofoam, epoxy tooling board, polystyrene and porcelain.
Created in the exact likeness of their 3D-scanned copies, the dollhouse furniture-inspired line features the imperfection and deformities that their smaller original versions had—which give these products character that is not minimalist, but a kitsch and fun quality that grows on you.
“The concept of the 1:1 collection was to work with digital technologies in such a manner that their natural character and options are admitted,” Lovasová told Dezeen.
