Eye Jewelry: Woman Gets Small Platinum Heart Surgically Implanted In Her Eye

Wearing jewelry may seem passé now that we can surgically embed bling into our bodies—Lucky Luckayanko is the first person in New York City to literally get a twinkle in her eye by implanting a piece of platinum jewelry into her eye.

Convinced that it would be a conversation maker, she underwent the new “Safesight Jewelry” procedure at Park Avenue Laser Vision—according to Fox News, it has been done “hundreds of times” in Europe and in Los Angeles, but never before in New York.

Medical director Dr. Emil Chynn first numbs the area of the eye where the heart-shaped piece of platinum is to be inserted before making a small incision.

Costing about US$3,000, the procedure has not yet been approved by the FDA, although Dr. Chynn believes that it is actually “pretty safe” with no risk of blindness—the little bit of local bleeding is supposed to go away after a couple of days or couple of weeks.

What do you think—is this just crazy or kind of cool?
