A Surreal, Otherworldly Cube Lodge Nestled In The Mountains

A Czech architectural firm by the name of Atelier 8000 has designed an amazing, futuristic mountain lodge for High Tatra Mountains in Slovakia.

Known as the ‘Kežmarské Hut’, this cubic house is a winning design entry for an international competition.

Resembling an otherworldly structure that fell from the sky and landed amongst the mountains, this structure is able to function completely off the grid, even at a high-altitude. It aims to be a sustainable accommodation for mountaineers all through the year.

With an exterior of reflective tiles made from aluminium, glass and photovoltaics, it keeps the sun’s harsh glare away.

Inside, the building is finished with warm, down-to-earth touches, such as glue-laminated timber beams of red spruce, wooden finishes and modern furniture.
