London-based writer-director Gary Turk, who previously showed how social media has made us less social, is back with a thought-provoking video that explains how consumerism has taken over our lives.
In the short film titled ‘Live Rich’, Turk delivers a spoken word narration about how advertising, power and money have conspired to warp our minds, making us chase after material possessions we don’t need.
“They’ll do anything to trick us, try and take our money captive. Sell us happiness and sex appeal, and ways to be attractive, so we go out and buy it, and fill our lives with clutter only we still feel the same, but with money in the gutter,” he says at one point.
At the end, he urges us to stop giving in to our desire for accumulating more things, and to learn the true meaning of wealth through experiences that money can’t buy.
