Norway has recently announced its artistic new currency notes that will definitely endure for centuries to come.
The new notes feature designs and images by Oslo-based architecture firm Snøhetta, as well as and graphic design company The Metric System.
For this grand redesign task, Norges Bank, the central bank of Norway, invited eight different design houses to submit proposals to redesign the Norwegian kroner.
In the end, Snøhetta and The Metric System was selected by Norges Bank as the lasting design that will now be in every citizen’s hands.
The selected design features traditional Norwegian imagery of a Viking ship, a lighthouse, and a fish on the front of the note, while the back features conceptual pixel art of Norway's coastal landscapes.
As the value of the notes increase, the pixel artwork becomes more abstract. For example, the 50 kroner note depicts a self-explanatory idyllic scene while the 1000 kroner note denotes a sea of purple.
The new currency will go into circulation in 2017.
