The ‘World’s First Hoverboard’ Lifts You One-Inch Off The Ground

Meet the ‘Hendo Hoverboard’, the “world’s first hoverboard” that could possibly change the way we travel in the future.

Created by California-based couple Jill and Greg Henderson, the hoverboard’s four underlying disc-shaped engines generate a magnetic field that pushes the board upwards, allowing it to hover up to one inch-off the ground.

Since magnetic fields are in use, the hoverboard can only work above conductive surfaces, such as copper. However, the couple is planning to create a “hover park” that lets users glide away with their hoverboards easily.

According to Re/code, the hoverboard experience was like “floating on air”, while a reporter from Engadget said that she felt like she was “standing on a giant air hockey puck hovering three quarters of an inch above the ground”.

The hoverboard may just be a prototype for now, but the husband-and-wife team are hoping to launch their innovative product on 21 October 2015.
