Websites of the Week: Dark Fun

Advertise here with BSA

Continuing along this horror filled month, this week’s web inspiration focuses on a list of impressive dark styled websites. On my quest, I try to look for sites bringing new ideas that marry design and tech.

What I found were some awesome digital examples including an interplanetary excursion, zombies birds, brutal photography, animatronic french design, a minimalist social network, and a death of musician!

Let me know what you guys think in the comments below.

Destiny Planet View

Destiny-Planet-View

Explore the final frontier with Destiny Planet View, an online game portal that uses Google technologies as part of its interface. Keep your speakers on, or you won’t know what’s the story about. The work that’s gone into this is truly inspiring.

Over the Hills

Over-the-Hills

There are only a few sites I’ve been truly impressed with over the years. With today’s advanced technology, I’m expecting a lot. ‘Over the Hills’ is a testament to what imagination and skillful coding can achieve. Premium collab work from the guys at Ultranoir and artist McBess. Tip, put on your headphones and definitely go into the ‘hole’. Visit

This Brutal House

brutalhouse

A photography site showcasing houses and structures in black and white. Cool CSS draggable functions. Tip, hit ‘Refresh’ at the bottom right for new images. Try it out.

Zombie Tweet

zombietweet

Think of this as a video recorder for Twitter. If you can’t follow tweets about your preferred TV show during the episode or if you host a conference you can schedule a recording. When you are ready to watch the episode or analyze discussions about the conference you can reload the tweets like press “play”. Cool concept, check it out if this works for you.

Creature Technology

creaturetech

The Creature Technology Company produces the most technologically sophisticated, creatively inspired and life-like animatronic characters for arena spectaculars, theme parks, exhibitions, stage shows and events in the world. Some impressive use of CSS, check it out here

Creative Park

creativepark

A french design agency focusing on digital, graphics, logotypes, and illustration. I love the dark theme and execution on the site.

Ello

ello

Ello is a simple, beautiful, and ad-free social network created by a small group of artists and designers. Currently in Beta, Ello requires an invite to join. Looks promising for designers. I’m especially thrilled about it being so minimalistic. See the site

Sivert Høyem

hoyem

This site is dedicated to Sivert, a musician who’s musical career was disturbed by sudden death. He had just put the finishing touches to Endless Love when he was struck by the death of his personal manager, Per Eirik Johansen, at the age of 54. The overall site has a great dark feel and the tone sets the mood for what it is. Check it out here
