New York-based Emmy Award-winning illustrator Loryn Brantz found that the drawings of Disney’s leading female characters had body proportions that were too unrealistic. That led her to take it upon herself adjust the waistlines of these fictional characters.
Disney’s classic stories are adored by many children and adults alike, and are even a crucial and formative point of reference for many young people. However, they sometimes promote unhealthy gender images, especially to women.
Addressing the fact that these women would still look beautiful and magical even if they had their waist adjusted, Brantz advocates a responsible portrayal of women in the media, even in Disney cartoons.
