New WhatsApp Update Lets You Know When Your Message Has Been Read

If you’re a WhatsApp user, you might have already noticed the subtle change upon opening the messaging app today.

The usual double gray check marks, which were previously misinterpreted as read receipts, will now turn blue as an indication that your messages have indeed been read by its recipients.

In its updated FAQ section, WhatsApp specified that in its latest version, a single check mark indicates a successfully sent message, double gray check marks show successful delivery to the recipient’s phone, while double blue ticks signal that the other party has read your message.

This new update applies to group chats as well.

Individuals can also know when exactly a message was received, read or played through the ‘Message Info’ screen, which can be accessed by holding down on that message.

The subtle change now makes it harder for individuals to not reply instantly after reading a text, as the blue indication will still be shown even if the ‘Last Seen’ timestamp is turned off.

What do you think? Do you welcome this new update?
