A City Built Under A Rock

The people of Setenil de las Bodegas, Spain live under a rock—we mean this literally, and not in the sense that they are especially ignorant.

Part of the Spanish city is built under an enormous rock, giving the appearance that it has been squeezed into the crevice between the rock and the ground.

Located along a narrow river gorge over the Rio Trejo, some houses in the city are built right into the rock walls by enlarging existing natural caves.

While it may not look like the most comfortable place to live, the city’s population of 3,000 inhabitants seem to be getting along just fine.
