Amazing Sculptures ‘Pop Up’ From A Single Piece Of Paper

Danish paper artist Peter Callesen has created a series of unbelievably complex paper sculptures, where each one is constructed from a portion of a single A4-sized sheet.

Entitled ‘A4 Papercuts’, Callesen starts by cutting up a piece of paper, and uses only the removed part to create the sculpture.

Appearing to “pop up” from the surface of the paper, these intricate sculptures continue to relate to their original canvas, even after taking three-dimensional form.

For instance, a paper snail rests on the cut-out imprint of a foot—a reference to the tendency of snails being stepped on.

According to the artist, “the paper cut sculptures explore the probable and magical transformation of the flat sheet of paper into figures that expand into the space surrounding them”.
