Dutch designer Daan Roosegaarde has created an illuminated bicycle path that is inspired by the beautiful patterns found in Van Gogh’s famous painting, The Starry Night.
Roosegaarde applied the same glow-in-the-dark concept found in his recent ‘Smart Highway’ for the ‘Van Gogh-Roosegaarde bicycle path’.
The solar-powered path consist of “thousands of twinkling stones” covered with a special paint that absorbs energy during the day. By night, these “stones” give off a soft, emanating glow that guide cyclists as they navigate through the path.
Situated at Nuenen, the city where Van Gogh lived in 1883, the bicycle path will be officially open to the public from 13 November 2014.
