If you have always dreamt of owning those iconic self-lacing sneakers from Back To The Future, you would probably get pretty excited about “Powerlace”, an auto-lacing shoe that has just launched on Kickstarter.
Described by its creators as “the most effective means of tying shoelaces the hands-free way”, it uses the wearer’s own body weight to activates a system of levers and cables to tighten and loosen the laces—no batteries or motor is required.
Made to be durable, the Powerlace is designed to last up 200,000 lacings. Users are also able to adjust the lace’s tension to suit their comfort level—the system would remember this setting and reapply it to subsequent use.
While these innovative shoes are currently only available in Men’s sizes—from 8 to 12—it is expected that Women’s sizes would eventually be available as well.
Prices starts from CAD$175—you can pledge for the Powerlace here.
