Photographer Takes Moving Self-Portraits To Cope With Her Fiance’s Death

Fine art photographer and writer Sarah Treanor’s moving series ‘Still, Life’ is a collection of hauntingly beautiful self-portraits.

The former graphic designer started her on-going series to cope with the pain of losing her fiancé in a helicopter crash in 2012.

She has been taking one black-and-white picture a week this year to chronicle her journey from grief to recovery, as she seeks to come to terms with her loss.

Treanor describes her series as “a way to externally explore and express everything that was going on inside of me.”

Powerful and striking, her largely raw, unedited images show her alone in forests, fields and lakes, and feature elaborate constructions such as a giant bird nest that she built herself.

Through her project, she hopes to reach out to those who are going through a similar loss, and let them know that they are not alone.
