Journey of the Survivors
Being adopted and rescued from abuse at a very young age, Oregon-based photographer Rob Woodcox uses his life experiences to raise awareness of the plight of foster children through an empowering photo series.
Titled ‘Stories Worth Telling’, the images depict the journey of foster children from their darkest moments of loss and brokenness to triumphant instances of love and hope.
As the identities of foster kids need to be protected, the entire series uses models and volunteers instead.
He told My Modern Metropolis, “I chose to make the style slightly surreal so that any past or current foster child could relate to the story as an adventure, rather than a frightening struggle.”
Woodcox hopes that ‘Stories Worth Telling’ can serve as a voice for foster kids and shed light on their needs. You can check out how you can help through adoption, volunteering or mentoring, or even donating to a foster camp, if you are interested.
