To highlight the fact that one in three women die of heart disease and stroke, the American Heart Association, the Ad Council and ad agency Deutsch New York have launched the Go Red For Women initiative to raise awareness of this frightening statistic.

They have created an ad that at first glance, appears to be about women’s rights. In the ad, a woman time-travels through key moments in the women’s rights movement, literally bursting through ceilings in the process.

“Today, women can do anything men can do. And there’s one thing we’re even better at,” she declares. The camera then fades and cuts to reveal her lying on the floor clutching her chest.

The ad ends with a link directing viewers to the Go Red For Women website to learn more about heart disease.

Powerful and jarring, it will make you think twice about heart disease as an illness that only affects men.
