Beijing-based artist Li Hongbo creates mesmerizing sculptures of human forms and other objects that look like they are made of porcelain—in fact, they are crafted from countless layers of paper.

A book editor and designer by profession, the artist’s work is inspired by the traditional Chinese paper gourd toys that he is fascinated with.

By creating a paper structure that is similar to honeycomb, he is able to produce intriguing sculptures that appear solid but can actually be stretched and manipulated into many varied forms.
