Montreal-based French artist Aude Moreau has created an installation piece titled “Sugar Carpet”—as its name suggests, the artwork is a carpet of sugar that covers the floor of Smack Mellon Gallery in Brooklyn, New York.
Made out of two tons of refined white sugar spread thinly over the floor like an actual carpet, the piece also features intricate motifs that are inspired by Persian rugs.
The use of refined sugar has a duo meaning—other than describing the type of sugar used, it also symbolizes the elegance of an expensive rug.
The installation is on display at the Smack Mellon Gallery until 24 February 2013.
