Daily Mail’s Website Wins ‘Top Design Effectiveness Award’

Not the prettiest, but certainly the most effective and with an award to prove it—the Daily Mail’s website has won the Gold, Grand Prix for Design Business Association’s Design Effectiveness Awards’ this year.

Redesigned in 2008 by Brand42, the website’s information architecture and brand proposition was changed.

The site was made to incorporate larger and more images, cleaner type and navigation—to attract younger audience, create a rich visual experience and a more contemporary digital presence.

In addition, each channel page was given a color-based branding system.

Since the overhaul, the MailOnline’s annual revenue grew 455%—from £4.5 million in 2008, to £25 million in 2012—making it the world’s biggest newspaper website.
