East Meets West: Classical Greek Art Gets Updated With Japanese Video Game Graph

The pieces by artistsOliver Payne and Keiichi Tanaami are among the most interesting East meets West artworks we have seen to date.

“Perfect Cherry Blossom” is a series of collages that mixes East and West, new and old, digital and analog—it pays homage to an arcade game of the same name, which is one of the most violent the Japanese have ever created.

By combining the images of Japanese Bullet Hell Games and photographs of classical Greek sculptures, the artists merged a distinctive pop aesthetic with ancient western art to highlight how the two seemingly separate world have influenced each other.
