Ad agency McKinney has created an arcade game for beer lovers, that would also make you love ‘bar fights’ and arcade games at the same time.
Called the ‘Beercade’, the retro-style arcade game—created for brewer Big Boss Brewing Company—dispenses free beer to the winners of the game.
Beercade’s coin slot is replaced by a few drip trays, cup-holders and motion sensors—instead of quarters, users just have to place the cups at the cup-holders, below the machine’s beer taps, as credit.
Players have to fight it out till the end, on the machine’s Flash-based two-player game ‘The Last Barfighter’—the best player of three rounds wins, and beer would dispense automatically into his/her cup.
Beercade was actually created to take the snore factor out of beer sampling: instead of being served by a bartender, gamers get to battle it out for a free sample of Big Boss’s popular beer brands.
“Beercade uses a custom-made system that re-utilizes certain retro nostalgic arcade machine user actions for its concept,” Adam Carroll, McKinney Creative Technologist, said in a statement. “When we started, we were trying to find a way for retro arcade machines to live again, and when we brought the idea to our client Big Boss Brewing, they jumped on board.”
Owen Tingle, Associate Creative Director at McKinney, added: “I grew up playing video games, and I remember stacking quarters at the old arcades waiting in line to show off my virtual fighting skills. And I think it’s a nostalgic experience a lot of people identify with. I’ve also grown to appreciate the craft and skill it takes to make good-tasting beer. So to combine these two passions into a unique experience other people can enjoy was just awesome.”
