Robot Helps New York Student Attend Class From Home

The way second grader Devon Carrow attends school continues to redefine our general notion of 'home schooling.'

Due to severe allergies, Devon can't attend classes like the rest of his classmates.

With the help of technology, he doesn't have to miss any lessons and can interact with this friends through his remotely operated 4-foot-tall VGo telepresence robot.

The robot is equipped with speakers, so Devon can answer questions raised in class; it can even sense obstacles and avoid 'tripping' over things.

Devon isn't the first child to use a VGo robot to participate in class activities, and while it cannot replace the experience of physically being in a classroom, it offers a great opportunity to those who can't be in school.
