Dubbed the “world’s longest art exhibition”, the Stockholm metro system is a futuristic subterranean wonderland of awe-inspiring design.
The initiative to bring art to the city’s subway stations was launched in the 1950s—in the decades since then, the 68 miles long network of 90 stations has seen artistic contributions from 150 artists.
The artworks featured on the rough stone walls of the subway stations are varied and exciting—while many of the stations resemble the high-tech interiors of alien space stations, others seem right out of the fantasy world of a child’s imagination.
A must-visit destination in the Swedish capital, see and learn more of the fascinating Stockholm metro system here.
