A Redesigned, Rocket Engine-Inspired Saucepan That Boils Water Faster

The “Flare Pan”, created by University of Oxford engineer Thomas Povey, cooks about 30% faster than standard pans, thanks to its unique design that is inspired by jet and rocket engines.



The saucepan’s base has a series of tapered fins which captures and channels heat from the flame, resulting in efficient and even heat distribution. This allows the cast aluminum saucepan to heat up more quickly with less energy.



According to Povey, he took three years to design the saucepan with his students.
