New York-based artist Cai Guo-Qiang returns with a new installation which is reminiscent of the famous Noah’s Ark.

In his work ‘The Ninth Wave’, the Chinese-born artist placed 99 life-sized fake animals such as tigers, pandas, and zebras on an old fishing boat before sending it off to sail along the Bund on the Huangpu River in Shanghai.

The fishing boat, which will dock at Shanghai’s Power Station of Art, will be converted to an indoor installation for his Cai's exhibition that runs from 8 August to 26 October 2014.

Cai hopes to bring attention to the current environmental and ecological issues that are affecting the Earth through his work, by showing “the relation between man and nature, the cultivation of the mind to return to the primordial spiritual landscape, and the origin of life”.
